Fork Union Military Academy this week announced the selection of the top three cadet officers who will lead the 2016-2017 Corps of Cadets. Fork Union Military Academy is one of the nation's leading college preparatory boarding schools and is located in Fork Union, Virginia. The school uses a modern military-style system to organize its student body and provide a structure for leadership development and individual responsibility. Cadet Officers gain real-world leadership experience in positions of significant responsibility within the Corps of Cadets.
Ozz Ben-David, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Doug Gold of Sherman Oaks, California, is named the Battalion Commander of the Corps of Cadets. Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, Ben-David will be the highest ranking cadet at the Academy. Ben-David is a rising senior and has attended Fork Union Military Academy since 2014. He was the Company Commander of Charlie Company during the 2015-2016 school year. "One of Ben-David's stated goals as a Company Commander last year was to lead his company's cadets to a sweep the end-of-year drill competition by winning all four categories of the competition," said COL Al Williamson, the Academy's Director of External Affairs. "He nearly achieved that goal, winning three of the four categories."
Walker Lander, the son of Wayne Lander of Rockdale, Illinois, and Elzbieta Lander of Elwood, Illinois, is selected to serve as the Battalion Executive Officer and is promoted to the rank of Major. Lander is a rising senior and has attended Fork Union Military Academy since 2013. He served as Command Sergeant Major for the 2015-2016 school year. His father, Wayne Lander, is a 1985 graduate of Fork Union Military Academy. "Walker hit the ground running upon his enrollment and has not wavered since," said COL Williamson. "He exhibits tireless energy, aggressively completing all assigned tasks and always making himself available to assist a fellow cadet. He displays exceptional leadership abilities, mature judgment, and has a soundness about him which is well beyond his years."
Brennon Garrison, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Garrison III of Orange, Virginia, will serve as Adjutant and is promoted to the rank of Major. Garrison is a rising senior and has attended Fork Union Military Academy since 2013. In the 2015-2016 school year he was the Company Commander of Echo Company. "Brennon took on the challenge of leading a company that was transitioning from ninth grade to incorporating seventh and eighth grade, also," explains COL Williamson. "Brennon's sound judgment while leading the youngest group of cadets on campus was exemplary and he did so while also earning the respect of his football teammates on the gridiron."
"These three young men personify our core values of respect, integrity, faith, character, and discipline," said Rear Admiral J. Scott Burhoe, Fork Union Military Academy's 10th President, "and we look forward to the leadership they will provide for the 2016-2017 school year."
